Prior to joining the firm, John Weiss served as law clerk (1980-1981) to the Honorable Robert E. Varner of the U. S. District Court, Middle District of Alabama; adjunct Professor in Taxation, Jones School of Law (1985-1989); and general counsel for a large medical center (1981-1983).
Outside the office, John Weiss is an avid fly fisherman, an elder in his church and has served his denomination in various capacities.

John Ward Weiss is a member of the firm’s Health Care, Taxation and Business Organizations and Transactions practice groups. With over twenty-five years experience in health law, John Weiss represents hospitals, physicians and other healthcare providers in numerous arrangements blending an operational understanding of the healthcare industry with the technical elements of health law practice.
John Weiss regularly advises clients on matters of compliance, contracting, joint ventures, recruiting, acquisitions and operations, and is a frequent lecturer on matters concerning exempt healthcare entities, Stark, fraud and abuse, and EMTALA. Outside the healthcare area, John Weiss assists clients with business organization structures and complex financings.
